Kaczyński Condemns Berlin Incident, Calls It a “Knife in the Back

**Warsaw** — Polish opposition leader Jarosław Kaczyński has sharply criticized what he described as the treatment of Polish activist Robert Bąkiewicz during a tense confrontation with German police in Berlin, calling the incident a “knife in the back” for Poles who expect solidarity and respect from European partners.

Speaking to supporters, Kaczyński argued that the events in Berlin raise serious questions about the rights of Polish citizens abroad and the broader state of Polish-German relations. He urged the Polish government to seek immediate clarification from German authorities and to provide diplomatic support if necessary.

The remarks came after reports of a heated standoff involving Bąkiewicz and law enforcement officers during a public gathering in the German capital. While German officials have maintained that police acted within legal procedures to preserve public order, critics have accused authorities of overreacting and suppressing political expression.

Kaczyński said that if the reports are confirmed, the incident would represent a betrayal of the mutual trust that should exist between neighboring European nations. “This is a knife in the back of those who believe cooperation must be based on equal treatment and respect,” he said.

German authorities have not commented directly on Kaczyński’s remarks. The incident continues to attract attention in both countries, with calls for a full explanation of the circumstances surrounding the police intervention.
