Jimmy Kimmel Announced He Is Canceling His Show After Trump’s Inauguration?
Following the 2024 election of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to a second term, claims emerged on social media that late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, a longtime Trump critic, would be canceling his show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, and moving to Canada on Inauguration Day:
The claim originated from a Nov. 10, 2024, article on the website SpaceX Mania, which read:
In a post-election bombshell, Jimmy Kimmel has announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will air its final episode on January 20th, citing disillusionment with the United States after Donald Trump’s re-election and a “red wave” across the country. The late-night host, known for his biting political satire and monologues, is hanging up his microphone—and booking a one-way ticket to Canada.
This claim was not true. SpaceX Mania explicitly describes most of its output as satirical, including this story about Jimmy Kimmel. Online memes connected to the publication also explicitly state, in the image shared on social media, that the claim is fictional. Snopes has covered numerous claims originating from SpaceX Mania.

In September 2022, Kimmel extended his contract with ABC by three years. While he has strongly implied, since well before Trump’s victory, that this contract renewal would be his last, it still obligates him to produce a 23rd season of the show, which would premiere in January 2025.
Because the claim originated from a satire website explicitly labeled as such, it is rated as labeled satire.
For background, here is why we alert readers to rumors created by sources that call their output humorous or satirical.
