Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Prepares to Play Week 18 vs. Broncos
The Kansas City Chiefs have secured the No. 1 seed in the AFC and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs after a 29-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium.
With another goal of Kansas City’s now crossed off the list, it puts Andy Reid and his coaching staff in an interesting position. There is still one game left in the regular season, and with nothing to gain and everything to lose, precisely who plays and who doesn’t will be a hot topic this week.
Patrick Mahomes will be the most obvious player at the center of that discussion. Having played through an ankle sprain, the All-Pro has a good chance of getting 100 percent healthy before attacking the postseason.
And he’s planning on playing in Week 18 against the Denver Broncos unless he’s tapped on the shoulder and told to sit.
That’s completely up to coach, I’ll prepare regardless either way,” Mahomes said. “Denver, it’s probably going to be a playoff team regardless, so I’m going to prepare for them like I’m going to start, and if coach wants me to go out there and play, I’ll go out there and play. If he doesn’t, I’ll sit back. I have full trust that coach Reid knows what he’s doing, and he’s done it for a long time.”
It will be a fascinating watch to see how the Chiefs play it in Week 18, and with a first-round bye achieved, if players do sit against Denver, it will be a few weeks between games, so there could be an element of rust that might.
