He emphasized that these decisions were based solely on facts and law—not politics—and said he would have reached the same conclusions regardless of Trump’s party.
Democrats, including Congressman Jamie Raskin, say Republicans kept the testimony private because a public hearing would have been devastating to Trump. Even behind closed doors, Smith’s testimony reinforced one message: Trump’s legal troubles are the result of his own actions—and the evidence is strong.
Rep. Jim McGovern shared a document on x from the Epstein files and pointed out that it was not an anonymous tip. He said the document contained sworn testimony given under penalty of perjury from a person who alleged that Trump threatened to kill her if she exposed Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse.
