BREAKING: Kansas City Chiefs Cut Veteran Player In Surprise Roster Move
The Kansas City Chiefs have made some roster moves this Tuesday, including a release.
KSHB’s Nick Jacobs has cited the NFL’s transaction report to point out that the Chiefs cut defensive lineman Matt Dickerson.
Dickerson made 18 appearances for the Tennessee Titans from 2018 to 2020. The Chiefs acquired him in August of 2022 but released him before naming their final roster. He went on to play 12 games for the Atlanta Falcons, registering six tackles, before rejoining the Chiefs in 2023.
The 28-year-old wasn’t a prominent member of the defense, playing 16 snaps and making a tackle in the Chiefs’ divisional-round win over the Buffalo Bills. He made the only sack of his career in the Titans’ first-round playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens three seasons ago.
The Kansas City Chiefs Defense Made All The Difference In 2023
The Kansas City Chiefs ended last season with their lowest total offense, ranking at No. 9. They were also 15th in scoring, their lowest in the Patrick Mahomes era. However, their defense allowed the second-fewest yards and points in the league.
The defense continued to make life hard for opposing players in the playoffs, with All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones setting the tone. They held the Miami Dolphins, Bills, Ravens, and San Francisco 49ers to a combined 63 points during their run to their second consecutive Super Bowl win. It’s worth noting that all their postseason opponents were in the top six in offense.
Jones is sticking around, having signed a five-year extension in March. The team is also set to keep defensive linemen Derrick Nnadi, Tershawn Wharton, and Mike Danna.
