U.S. President Trump Signals Further Military Action in Iran
March 2, 2026 โ In a series of forceful remarks on Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that the most intense phase of the ongoing conflict with Iran has yet to occur, saying the United States โhasnโt even startedโ its largest military effort and that โthe big one is coming soon.โ
Speaking in a CNN phone interview, Trump said current operations represent only the beginning of what Washington considers necessary to counter what his administration terms a grave threat from Iranโs missile and nuclear programs. He framed a potential escalation as imminent, adding that U.S. military involvement could continue over several more weeks.
The comments come amid an expanding U.S.โIsrael military campaign against Iranian targets, which intensified after the death of Iranโs Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in the opening days of the conflict. Iranian forces have responded with missile and drone strikes across the region, including against Gulf Arab states.
Trumpโs remarks have drawn mixed reactions domestically and internationally. Some U.S. officials have described the campaign as intended to dismantle Iranian military capabilities and deter future threats, while others express concern about widening regional instability.
Separately, Iranian officials have insisted their actions are defensive, rejecting U.S. characterizations of Tehranโs motives and warning that further aggression would be met with a strong response.
As of Monday, the conflict shows no sign of abating. Both sides continue to exchange strikes and diplomatic efforts appear limited, leaving observers to watch closely for further escalation or possible avenues toward de-escalation.
