**Sen. Lisa Murkowski Breaks With Trump, Warns Against SAVE Act**

**Washington, D.C. —** Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) on Tuesday broke with former President Donald Trump and many in her party, expressing strong opposition to the proposed **SAVE Act**, a federal election reform bill. Murkowski warned that the legislation, which aims to standardize certain voting procedures across states, could “federalize elections” and interfere with state-led election preparations.

In a statement, Murkowski emphasized the importance of state control over election administration, arguing that the bill’s mandates could disrupt established processes and create confusion for voters. “While I support efforts to ensure secure and accessible elections, this legislation goes too far by imposing a one-size-fits-all federal approach on states,” she said.

The SAVE Act has drawn support from Trump and other Republican leaders who argue it would strengthen election security nationwide. Critics, however, say it could undermine state sovereignty and complicate logistics in jurisdictions with different voting systems and timelines.

Murkowski’s stance highlights growing divisions within the Republican Party over election reform, illustrating the tension between national initiatives and state autonomy. Analysts suggest her opposition could influence other moderate Republicans weighing the balance between party loyalty and concerns over federal overreach.
