A fresh political storm is unfolding in Washington after U.S. Senator Ed Markey publicly called for President Donald Trump to be removed from office under the 25th Amendment.
The controversy follows recent remarks and actions linked to Greenland and rising geopolitical tensions, which critics argue raise concerns about the president’s judgment and fitness to lead. Senator Markey stated that the constitutional provision exists for situations where a president may be considered “unable to discharge the powers and duties” of the office.
Several Democratic lawmakers have reportedly backed the call, urging the vice president and members of the Cabinet to consider invoking Section 4 of the amendment — a rarely discussed constitutional mechanism that allows a president to be declared unfit for duty.
Supporters of the move argue it is necessary to protect national stability, while critics describe it as politically motivated and divisive. The White House has strongly rejected the claims, defending President Trump’s leadership and accusing opponents of attempting to undermine his administration.
The growing debate has once again placed the 25th Amendment at the center of American politics, with legal experts and political analysts closely watching how the situation develops in the coming days.
