Iga eliwi owetek, who is preparing for Wimbledon, gave a very interesting interview to David Góra from WP SportoweFakty.

In it she spoke about the last Roland Garros and her tennis future. However, that’s not the most interesting part of this conversation.

I think everybody should remember these words.

🎙️ “In the earlier years of my career, the results came systematically and early. However, the brutal truth is, that sports don’t look like that. I was so fortunate to have experienced this. Now I’m trying to shift to patience, trusting the process, which started in April. I know that change won’t bring instant effects and I try to believe that I’m well on track to improve my tennis. Failure should not define me”

Iga takwi łatek achieved success so quickly, and then became so freely at the top that some people thought it would always be like that. Well, that’s not the case, neither in sports nor in life. Defeat and crisis are an integral part of it.

🎙️ “If a man succeeds and wins, suddenly defeat is unacceptable.” This is not exactly human. Everyone makes mistakes, especially in sports. We are being tested all the time. Every week we gotta prove how we play”

This is a permanent problem of Polish sport. Success is not only admiration or respect, but also gigantic pressure. Champions in our country are sometimes deprived of the possibility of losing. Well, how is this?

🎙️ “I got so much hate in 2024 that I would never expect anything like this.” 2025 wasn’t easy either. The last two years have been a lot tougher in this regard. “There were moments when I felt really bad and it was hard for me to let go of it, even on the court”

Iga is right that some people treat athletes like robots rather than people. He forgets their feelings and emotions. It’s easy to crush someone, much harder to appreciate them.

That’s why we should appreciate and respect great champions such as Iga. Even if he doesn’t work, let’s remember that they are great.
